Dr. Bart van de Ven
President
He was born in Heerlen in 1961. After completing his secondary education at the Bernardinus College in Heerlen, he went on to study dentistry and later medicine in Utrecht.
For his specialization, he worked in the department for oral and maxillo-facial surgery at the Utrecht academic hospital for two years, in general surgery in Arnhem and Utrecht (Diakonessenhuis) for three years, spent 8 months working in plastic and reconstructive surgery and the Maastricht academic hospital, and 1.5 years in the Mund, Kiefer und plastische Gesichtschirurgie (oral, maxillo-facial and plastic facial surgery) department at the Academic hospital in Aachen, Germany.
In 2001 he founded the Cleftsurgery Organisation. This organisation provides free surgeries to cleft lip and palate patients in development countries. Over the years Dr van de Ven has performed several hundreds of free surgeries in Kenya, Vietnam, Nepal and Indonesia.
From March 2008 he is director of Agave Clinic, international center for advanced maxillofacial, plastic and reconstructive surgery (see: www.agaveclinic.com). In July 2008 he was first author of the book ‘Cleft Lip Surgery, a practical Guide’ that has been published in English and Spanish.
He has two children, Anne and Peppino, and lives in Marbella.

Born 1954 in Germany, Medicine Studies in France (Lille) till 1980. General surgery 1986. Subspecialty in Traumatology and plastic reconstructive surgery till 1991 in the University of Tübingen at the bgu, one of the biggest German center of burns hand plastic und traumatology. 1991 assistant medical director in the department of traumatology and plastic surgery of the University of Heidelberg. His surgical mentors: Prof. Rühland, Prof. Weller and Prof. Herfarth, all past-presidents of the german College of Surgeons. 1992 appointed medical director of the Klinik Pöseldorf in Hamburg, a private hospital mainly focused on aesthetic surgery, which he bought with his wife in 1996. Married since 1978 with Lily, who is a doctor anesthesiologist.
Two daughters that are married and giving them the joy of grandparenthood.
Since 2008 living permanently in Marbella, Spain.

Dr. Luis Capitán

Born in Granada, Spain in 1976, Dr. Capitán completed his bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Granada in the year 2000. After five years as a resident intern at the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital in Granada capital, he achieved the title of Specialist, by means of the MIR System, in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He then continued his education in Tissue Engineering, obtaining his doctorate at the University of Granada, cum laude, in 2006. A year later he obtained the title of Master of Tissue Engineering from the University of Granada (2007), specialising in Ortognathic and Craniofacial Surgery.
Dr. Capitán has been awarded hospital residencies on scholarship from the Institute of Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology at the Teknon Clinic of Barcelona with Dr. Hernandez Alfaro, as well as in the Craniofacial Surgery and Dentofacial Deformities Units of Morriston University Hospital (Wales, U.K.), along with Professor Adrian Sugar.
It is in the U.K. where he took on the role as faculty specialist for the first time, later returning to his current post at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves in Granada. As the author of diverse national and international scientific articles, Dr. Capitán has given numerous courses on his specialty, placing special emphasis on reconstructive techniques utilising micro-vascular tissue auto-transplants.
Member of the organisation AO International (Foundation AO-ASIF, Davos-Switzerland) for the study of osteosynthesis. Also a member of the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as the European Society of Craneo-maxillofacial Surgery.
